Run for the Roses

For all of KettyKet's life, only two things were given heavy weight in Kentucky - basketball and horse-racing. (well, maybe 3 if you add bourbon to the list...or 4 if you add beautiful women, of which, obvs, KettyKet is one).

Today marks the best of Kentucky. If you've ever been to Churchill Downs on Derby day, it gives you chills when the crowd starts singing "My Old Kentucky Home" just before the big race. When you're from Kentucky and the weather is beautiful, you're sporting your pastel dress and big hat, drinking a mint julep and laughing, eating Derby pie, betting, and just in general BS-ing with everyone else around you, it's just the best day ever- provided of course that you hang out in the boxes or the clubhouse. KettyKet, for all of her redneck roots on one side of the family (with whom she spends many a Christmas, buying gifts for the illegitimate cousins with multiple fathers), can also be a bit of a Southern belle snob these days and avoid the infield with its scary influx of drunk high school and college students.

I don't want to get too nostalgic, so I'll just say - We know how to do it right down South.

Which is probably why party gal herself, Tara Reid, decided to head to Louisville this weekend. In a stroke of luck for herself and a stroke of visual humor for us, she might run into Tammy Faye Messner, also there, and be able to see first-hand how she'll look in about 20 years.

Ben Widdicombe's Gatecrasher on the guests expected. (Pretty much the usual).

Kentucky Derby: 6:04pm - NBC. Still not sure who I'm betting on...last time I was there, I hit the Trifecta, winning roughly $550 on a $12 bet. So, pressure's on. The favorite has only won once in my lifetime (Smarty Jones), so I know enough to stay away from that. And although I now live in NYC, I generally don't like carpetbaggers coming down South, which elimates Steinbrenner's horse, Bellamy Road. So...we'll see.

But you pick: Derby Contenders

(Side Note - And hopefully photos of A-List celebrities will be available tomorrow)...

UPDATE: Sunday's Courier-Journal coverage of the Derby and celeb guests, including Usher, Kid Rock, Tori Spelling, and other nouveau riche celebs shuttled to Kentucky for the weekend, including cast members of "Lost."
